Seven postures facing AI. Today I close the series with the first question to ask yourself.
Seven different ways of approaching the AI revolution. Each one with a blind spot. One of them is yours, today.
The first question you need to ask yourself about AI isn’t “what AI do we need?” It’s “how am I experiencing it?”
Because the posture determines everything. It determines what you seek out, what you reject, what you don’t see. It determines who you call in your company to discuss it. It determines what you’ll promise and what you’ll protect. It also determines which supplier you choose — and which supplier speaks your language without you even noticing.
Do you recognise yourself?
→ With AI, you’ve gone back to doing something you loved, with your hands and with real excitement: the Renaissance Mind.
→ What you have is enough, and you haven’t asked yourself what’s underneath: the Satisfied.
→ You openly admit you haven’t understood it and feel confused: the Honestly Disoriented.
→ You don’t have a clear picture at all, but you can’t say so: the Quietly Disoriented.
→ You were an early adopter of AI, it didn’t go well, and… “never again”: the Disappointed.
→ Your main concern is data moving through servers abroad, privacy: the Sovereign.
→ You see AI as part of the system and are trying to pass it on to others in a structured way: the Process Thinker.
None of these is wrong. Each one is an honest starting point. And from a starting point, you can move: you may have already shifted from one posture to another, or be living in a mix of two. I started out 100% Renaissance Mind. Then I migrated toward the Process Thinker.
The problem isn’t being in a posture, or even changing it. The problem is not knowing which one you’re in. Because that posture, until you see it, decides for you.
The question “what AI do we need” always comes later. First comes this one: “Where am I looking at it from?”
P.S. See you soon with the full article in the series. The complete map of the seven postures, and how to keep it in your pocket.
